About the trek

Join a small group to trek for 8 days through some of Thailand’s most beautiful and remote regions to raise funds for our children. Hike through lush jungle areas, visit beautiful caves and waterfalls, and spend time in remote villages and communities learning from the locals. You will sleep in hammocks, eat authentic Thai food prepared by your hosts, and experience Thailand like never before. On the final day you will hike to our original Baan Tharn Namchai home where you’ll be greeted by the very children you’ve worked so hard to support.

Trek for Good will present challenges, test your limits, and build character but importantly it will feed your soul. The group will be made up of people from all walks of life and you will return home with lifelong friends and memories that will last a lifetime. It doesn’t matter if you are a marathon runner or haven’t exercised in years, like all of the Hands experiences, the trek is an inclusive experience that is achievable with some training. We’ll provide guides and advice to help get you there both from a training and a fundraising perspective.  The important thing to remember is the goal is not to finish first, but to finish together.

Inclusions

9 Nights Accommodation

Accommodation will be a mix of basic hotel accommodation, bungalows, homestays and camping. You will experience some incredible off the beaten track places and will need to come with an open mind as you spend some of your nights in the jungle in a hammock. The final night will be a treat as we finish at the beautiful Bangsak Merlin resort. This is a great resort to kick up your tired feet and enjoy some R&R and cocktails by the pool. Speak to us if you would like to extend your stay.

null
All meals during the trek

Mealtimes will deliver some memorable experiences as you prepare food with the guides in the jungle, enjoy beach BBQ’s and community gatherings. We do recommend packing some snacks like protein bars or nuts in case you get hungry during the day.

null
Luggage

There will be porters and storage for your main luggage at various points through the Trek. We would recommend no more than 12kg in your main bag, and then you should get yourself a good day pack as there will be times that you are without your main luggage so this will need to hold your swimmers and often a change of clothes.

null
Clothing – Hands T-shirt and hat
You will receive a t-shirt and hat as part of your trek package. We will send a recommended clothing guide closer to the experience so you can prepare for your adventure. We recommend great walking shoes and socks at minimum. But make sure you wear your shoes in as you don’t want to deal with blisters on tour.
null

Airene is our fabulous coordinator who will be getting in contact to finalise travel arrangements and all things associated with the trek. We also have the Events Team who will be managing logistics in the back end and also available at any time to discuss questions you might have. To get in touch email team@handsgroup.org.au and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Cost & Payment Details

You will need to arrive in Khao Lak by 15 March. Khao Lak is about 1.5hr drive from Phuket International Airport. Your first night accommodation will be at Baan Nam Khem Community Centre which is one of the seven Hands’ projects. You will share and evening meal before your trekking experience begins on 16th March. After the trek, many trekkers choose to stay a couple of extra days in Khao Lak to relax by the ocean with a quiet book or spend some more time with the children at Baan Tharn Namchai. We can help you with your accommodation bookings.

To participate, you must raise AU$5,000 with funds going towards improving the lives of the children we support. Don’t worry – we will help you find your fundraising feet. You also need to cover your registration cost of $2,495 and all flights.

To sign up you will pay a deposit of AU$500. You will then receive a link to create your own unique fundraising page and your journey is underway! The final balance payment will be due on 1 December 2018. Monthly payment plans are available – please contact us to arrange.
